In 2010, CEO Gustaf Agartson launched BIMA; with a vision to disrupt the traditional insurance industry and bring underserved customers affordable insurance for the first time.

5 years later, BIMA launched tele-medicine services; unlimited access to qualified doctors at the touch of a button to address the unmet need for quality healthcare access.

We currently serve over 25 million active users.

2010 - The Story Begins
BIMA launches in Ghana. In partnership with Tigo, we bring Family Care Insurance to customers.

2011 - 2nd year, 2nd market, 2nd product
BIMA launches its second product with Tigo in Ghana and starts operations in its second market: Tanzania.

2012 - Big investments and our first step into Asia
Kinnevik and Millicom invest in BIMA and we launch 2 new markets: Senegal and Bangladesh.

2013 - We expand our product offer
We launch our very first Hospital insurance product. Leapfrog Investments commits funding to BIMA as we expand to our 6th market!

2014 - Hitting the million mark
Not only is it our most prolific year for market launches. With 7 new countries going live, we also hit milestone of one million policies sold..

2015 - We go beyond insurance
BIMA launches mHealth services. We now give people access to vital health services at the touch of a button. We go live in Pakistan.

2016 - All about empowerment
We launch RUN, BIMA’s women’s empowerment programme to promote gender equality across our markets.

2017 - $100 million investments
Axiata and Allianz X invest $16.8 million and $96.2 million for the continued expansion of BIMA.

2018 - Evolution of our mHealth services
BIMA introduces exciting new features to its mHealth offer including discounts at laboratories, home medicine delivery, and a customer app in two markets – Ghana and Bangladesh. We also launch BIMA in Malaysia.

2019 - Winning big at the mobile Oscars
BIMA wins ‘Best Innovation for Health and Biotech' at the GSMA GLOMO awards, considered the Oscars of the mobile industry.

2020 - BIMA secures investment to drive product innovation
BIMA investment from CreditEase, Allianz, and Leapfrog to drive product innovation and mass adoption of digital health and insurance services across Africa and Asia.
